Unlocking Your $400 Property Tax Rebate in Montana (2025 Edition)
As of August 15, 2025, Montana homeowners can now apply for a one-time property tax rebate-a welcome relief for eligible residents. Here's the lowdown on what you need to know:
What’s the Rebate?
Up to $400 of the property taxes you paid in 2024 on your principal Montana residence Montana Department of Revenue+1.
If you paid less than $400, you'll receive the full amount paid. If you paid more, the rebate maxes out at $400 Montana Department of Revenue+1.
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible, you must have:
Owned and lived in your Montana principal residence for at least seven months during 2024 Montana Department of Revenue+1.
Paid property taxes on that residence in 2024-including special assessments Montana Department of Revenue.
Ownership must be individual or via a grantor revocable trust. Properties held in LLCs, corporations, or irrevocable trusts do not qualify Montana Department of RevenueParsons Behle & Latimer.
Renters are ineligible Montana Department of Revenue.
If you moved during 2024:
You may still be eligible if you lived and paid property taxes on your principal residences for a combined total of seven months, but you can only claim one rebate; report the geocode and taxes for the longer-lived-in residence Montana Department of Revenue.
How to Apply
